One of our favorite things to do while traveling is trying new foods! Now this may come as a surprise to those of you who truly know me. I’m usually a wimp when it comes to trying new food but travel has certainly changed that a little! When traveling we like to research popular dishes in that area and try them and if possible we like to book a food tour. So far we have done an organized food tour in Athens and in London and I highly recommend both of them.

I first discovered the “London Secret Food Tour” via Helen in Between’s blog. She highly recommended it so we just had to try it out! Oh boy, I also recommend it! You get to see so much of London, and taste so much great food! It was worth every penny! This tour began by meeting in Borough Market. If you have read any London travel guide, you have probably heard many praises of Borough Market. The Market is so much fun and the food we tasted there was incredible. We started off the tour with a breakfast sandwich, followed by fish and chips (from Fish! Kitchen) and a sausage roll! I never eat fish, but I actually ate ALL of my fish and chips on this tour! They were so yummy!

Our guide gave us such a detailed history of the market and of London’s food history as well! He was super informative and also does some West End shows in his spare time so he was also very entertaining! That is part of the reason I love guided tours so much. Yes, we could have gone to Borough Market ourselves and tried the food but we would have missed getting all this good information! My husband and I are total history nerds so this is a reason we are usually willing to splurge a little on these tours if the budget allows.

After Borough Market we headed to a little pub near London Bridge (it was actually across from the spooky London Bridge Experience). Here we got to taste test mead and cider along with cheese and meats! So yummy! There was only about 10 people in this tour group and by this part of the tour we were all getting along and having a blast with each other!

After the pub we went to a little cafe where we got to enjoy a classic English Tea along with sticky toffee pudding! Even though it was a whopping 100 degrees Fahrenheit outside I still chugged the hot tea while our guide started a debate on whether you pour in cream before or after the tea. I never usually put cream or sugar in my tea so this whole debate was silly to me.

We ended the tour in Hay’s Galleria where we had a special donut treat from Bread Ahead Bakery. This was a perfect was to end such a fun day! If you have been keeping track we ate a ton of food that day! A breakfast sandwich, fish and chips, a sausage roll, mead, cider, cheese and meats, tea, sticky toffee pudding and a donut! Hay’s Galleria was a perfect place to finish, it is just walking distance from the Tower Bridge and the Tower of London which were next on our itinerary.
